Welcome to the Clever Giraffe

It appears that you’ve clicked on the “Blog” link on our newly redesigned website. Congratulations! And you’re probably wondering, “what the heck is this all about?” Let’s see if I can help.

I’m Jonathan Henderson, one of the two people who own and run The Clever Giraffe. The other owner is Donnie Page, and he’ll be posting here as well.

We started The Clever Giraffe on February 13, 2009. After years of working in corporate computer software development and marketing, we decided it was time to take everything we’d learned over the past 25 years, combine it with both our “classical” training, and strike out on our own. Although many might (and have!) suggested that starting a new business in the middle of the largest recession since 1929 is questionable, we both felt that we’d been putting this off long enough, and that no time is better than the present.

What We Do

Our mission is to bring the magic of “New Media” to existing and startup businesses, specifically as it pertains to product introductions, demonstrations, and overviews.

If you need to create a product demo if you need a corporate video – if you need educational or training materials – if you need Flash or web design and development – then we can help. Take a look through our portfolio to see examples of the work we’ve done in the past.

Who We Are

My formal training is in computer graphics, film and television; Donnie’s is photography, project management, and networking systems. I’ve worked for Microsoft, LendingTree, HomeSpace, Three D Graphics, and Citrix Systems; Donnie has worked for UPS, Kemper, and Citrix Systems.

In our jobs, we learned how to combine our formal training in the creative arts with our professional training in the software and internet fields. I’ve made dozens of corporate videos and Flash applications, mostly focused on product demonstrations and user education. I’ve also worked for years as a formal user interface designer, and as a web designer and web development manager. Donnie worked as a format development manager, product manager, and events manager. For years, Donnie ran very large corporate software events at venues all across the country, including major shows in Las Vegas and Orlando.

Together, we bring an in-depth knowledge of the software and internet business, combined with years of experience in the graphic arts, video, and web technologies.

What Is This Blog?

One of the great advantages to owning your own company is the freedom to talk about whatever you want. In my past life within corporations, we were encouraged to blog about the company’s products – but we were prohibited from talking about the company itself. I’m now free from that restriction.

So here on our blog, we’re going to talk about projects we’ve worked on, tips and tricks for how we work, our corporate philosophy, our employees and freelancers, and anything else we can think of that may be of interest to anyone working on product demonstrations, web design, or flash development.

We’ll also talk about what it’s like to set up and run a small company. We’ll pass on what’s fun and what’s not so fun about working for yourself. We’ll even talk about the “little things” that make working in a small company enjoyable – like getting our first order of company shirts.

So bookmark this page, subscribe to our RSS feed, or visit us in whatever form your current technology enables. Because, after all…

We’re head and shoulders above the rest.
